Prisoner in South Carolina awaits last-minute reprieve from execution

Brad Sigmon, who is set for a historic death via firing squad, is hoping for a stay of execution just hours before his scheduled death. His lawyer, Bo King, claims that Sigmon requested more information about the lethal injection to make an informed decision on his choice of execution method. Sigmon was convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend’s parents in 2001. King argues that Sigmon was suffering from a mental illness during the crime and trial, and that he should not be subjected to the death penalty. Despite his impending execution, Sigmon has been focusing on providing support to his fellow inmates on death row, acting as a chaplain for them. There is an appeal in the Supreme Court and a petition for clemency has been submitted to the governor. The WYFF News team will provide extensive coverage of Sigmon’s execution scheduled to take place at the Broad River Facility in Columbia, South Carolina.
