U.S. citizen questioned by ICE after supporting Trump at polling station: ‘Just accompanying Hispanic voters’

Jensy Machado, a naturalized Virginia resident and U.S. citizen, is questioning his support for President Donald Trump after he was mistakenly detained by ICE agents while they were searching for someone with a deportation order. Machado, who provided documentation of his legal status, was driving to work with two other men when he was stopped and surrounded by agents with guns. Despite insisting on his identity and offering to show his ID, Machado was handcuffed and questioned by the agents. He was eventually released after showing his driver’s license, but the two other men with him were taken into custody. Machado said the experience has shaken his faith in Trump’s immigration enforcement policies, as he believed they would only target criminals, not every Hispanic individual. He expressed disappointment that simply based on appearance, Hispanics are being assumed to be illegal immigrants. Immigration lawyers advise all residents and citizens to always carry identification with them. Machado, who voted for Trump in the last election, now feels disillusioned with the administration’s approach to immigration enforcement, believing they are unfairly targeting Hispanic individuals. ICE has been contacted for comment on the incident.
