Chiefs release wide receiver Xavier Worthy after charges dropped by Texas district attorney

Xavier Worthy, a wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, was released after a district attorney in Texas declined to pursue charges of felony domestic violence against him. The arrest stemmed from an allegation made by a female living in Worthy’s home, who had been asked to leave due to infidelity. Despite being accused of assault on a family member in which breath was impeded, the case was dismissed by the district attorney after speaking with witnesses.

Worthy’s attorneys stated he was innocent of the charges, claiming the female had made extortive efforts and had physically attacked Worthy. The Chiefs were aware of the situation and gathering information. Worthy was a promising player for the Chiefs, setting records and being a key player in their Super Bowl run.

This incident was reminiscent of another Chiefs wide receiver, Rashee Rice, who was involved in a high-speed car crash in 2024. Rice, who had a promising rookie season, is currently facing civil lawsuits and criminal charges for his role in the accident. Despite admitting fault, Rice is dealing with legal consequences for the crash.

Both Worthy and Rice, key players for the Chiefs, have faced legal troubles in Texas, impacting their careers on the field.
