Poll: Nancy Mace emerges as front-runner among likely contenders for SC governor | Palmetto Politics

South Carolina Governor’s Race Heats Up as Mace Accuses Men of Sexual Exploitation

South Carolina Congresswoman Nancy Mace has recently made headlines for accusing four men of recording incidents of sexual exploitation, voyeurism, and assault involving multiple women without their knowledge, while also revealing herself as a victim. The four men have denied the allegations. A poll conducted between Feb. 21 and March 5 indicates that Mace and Attorney General Alan Wilson are early front-runners in the 2026 race for governor. The statewide poll, which surveyed about 1,200 respondents, shows that Mace and Wilson have a head start in name recognition among potential GOP primary voters. However, other contenders like Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette, U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman, State Senator Josh Kimbrell, and businessman John Warren also have strong support bases.

Efforts to boost Evette’s prospects in the race have already begun, with a network of President Donald Trump’s advisers and political consultants launching a super PAC. Mace, who has expressed doubts about Evette’s ability to be governor, has support from GOP primary voters who remember her from the 2024 race. While the poll does not measure favorability or voter preference, it highlights the early dynamics of the governor’s race in South Carolina. As familiarity could play a significant role in fundraising and voter outreach, the competition is expected to intensify in the coming months.
