Ty Vaughn, a Texas man, has been charged with murder in the death of his fiancé, Luis David Banos Norberto. Prior to Banos’ death, Vaughn reportedly searched online for the legal consequences of a “legal citizen” killing an “illegal immigrant.” The Baytown Police Department arrested Vaughn in connection with Banos’ death, in which Banos was found shot in the head. Vaughn claimed that after an argument with Banos, he left the apartment and returned intoxicated to find Banos dead.
According to a court document, it is alleged that Vaughn shot Banos in the face with a lever action rifle and staged the scene to look like a suicide. Vaughn, a U.S. Army veteran, has been granted a $500,000 bond for his release with the condition of wearing a GPS monitor. An arraignment hearing is scheduled for April 30.
Vaughn’s court-appointed attorney, Inger Chandler, stated that her client is devastated by the loss of his fiancé and loved him deeply. Banos, originally from Guerrero, Mexico, is survived by his parents, grandparents, and three brothers who all reside in Baytown. His obituary reflects his big heart and volunteer work he had done over the years.
Family and friends mourn the loss of Banos, with some sharing memories and tributes online. A GoFundMe page was set up to help with expenses for Banos’ mother, as the family struggles with the tragic loss. The case is ongoing, and Vaughn is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
