Authorities say Myrtle Beach woman started South Carolina wildfire that burned 2,000 acres


A state of emergency was declared in South Carolina recently due to wildfires that burned more than 2,000 acres. A 40-year-old Myrtle Beach woman, Alexandra Bialousow, has been arrested and charged with arson/negligently allowing fire to spread to lands of another. The South Carolina Forestry Commission determined that a fire pit on Bialousow’s property ignited the 2,000-acre Covington Drive Fire. Witnesses reported seeing her intentionally start a fire in her backyard, leading to the spread of the fire to neighboring lands. The fire prompted evacuations in certain neighborhoods, but no structures were destroyed, and no injuries were reported. Bialousow faces imprisonment and fines if convicted. Mayor Brenda Bethune of Myrtle Beach spoke about containment efforts on LiveNOW with Andrew Craft. The situation highlights the importance of fire safety and the potential consequences of negligence when it comes to handling fires. Officials continue to work on containing the fires to prevent further damage.
