Boeing South Carolina has awarded a $1 billion expansion project to a joint venture team of HITT Contracting and BE&K Building Group. The project is part of Boeing’s investment in its North Charleston campuses, aimed at meeting the increasing demand for its 787 Dreamliner. The expansion will include a servicing and testing facility for the Dreamlifter cargo freight plane, creating approximately 8.2 acres of structural concrete and a new employee parking lot.
Boeing’s South Carolina operations have been in place since 2009, with the full 787 Dreamliner production cycle being based there for over a decade. The expansion project is expected to begin later this year, with completion anticipated in early 2027. The joint venture team, along with architect firm BRPH, will serve as the construction manager for the project.
This news comes at a challenging time for Boeing, following a year of financial losses and safety-related incidents. Despite these challenges, the company is moving forward with its expansion plans in South Carolina.
