Extreme weather conditions expected to increase this weekend

A severe weather outbreak is expected to affect our area this weekend, with Chief Meteorologist Chris Justus providing the latest updates on the approaching storms. While highs climb into the 70s on Friday under mostly sunny skies, a severe weather outbreak is forecasted for parts of the Midwest and Deep South. The system is expected to move eastward, bringing potential impacts to our area late Saturday into early Sunday.

New model data suggests that our area may not have as much storm fuel, but there will be plenty of wind energy, leading to heavy rain, thunder, and lightning with isolated severe weather possible. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop late Saturday evening, intensifying overnight into Sunday morning. While storms may weaken as they approach, there is still a medium to high chance of severe weather locally, with the main threat being strong, damaging winds and a possible isolated tornado risk.

Residents are advised to track the storms on the interactive radar, check for alerts in their area, and stay updated on the latest forecasts and conditions.
