South Carolina experiences tornado touchdown during weekend storms

A tornado touched down in Chapin, South Carolina, crossing Lake Murray on Sunday morning as strong storms swept through the southeast. The National Weather Service confirmed the twister touched down at 7:38 a.m. and stayed on the ground for 10 minutes. The tornado downed trees in Chapin, moved into the Timberlake neighborhood, and caused concentrated damage near Isle of Pines Drive. It then re-entered the lake, before dissipating near Indian Fork Road. The tornado was 125 yards wide and traveled 5.8 miles, classified as an EF-1 with peak winds of 90 mph. Fortunately, no injuries were reported despite some wind damage in the area. Tragically, two boys died in western North Carolina after a tree fell on their home during the same storm system.
