Top Seeds in Women’s NCAA Tournament Claimed by UCLA, South Carolina, Texas, and USC

The UCLA Bruins are the top overall seed in the NCAA women’s basketball tournament, the highest in the program’s history. The tournament will culminate in the national semifinals on April 4 and the championship game on April 6 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla. Top challengers include South Carolina, Texas, and USC, with USC handing UCLA its only two losses. Connecticut, a traditional powerhouse, is also a top contender as the nation’s best-shooting team.

The tournament selection committee considered factors such as head-to-head wins and competitive losses, with UCLA earning the top seed over South Carolina due to a 15-point victory earlier in the season. Other top seeds include Duke, North Carolina State, and TCU, the latter making its first tournament appearance since 2010.

The tournament will kick off with the First Four matchups on Wednesday and Thursday, followed by the rounds of 64 and 32 from Friday to Monday. The Sweet 16 and Elite Eight rounds will take place from March 28-31. There are three tournament berths from the Ivy League and six first-time participants, including Grand Canyon, Arkansas State, Fairleigh Dickinson, UC San Diego, George Mason, and William & Mary. Overall, the tournament promises exciting matchups and fierce competition among the top seeds.
