No. 12 Virginia Women’s Golf Finishes Fourth at Old Barnwell Derby Matchplay Tournament

The Virginia women’s golf team participated in the Old Barnwell Derby Matchplay tournament in South Carolina, facing off against seven other elite women’s golf programs. Seeded fourth, the Cavaliers started strong by defeating Ole Miss in the quarterfinals with a 4-1 victory. However, they fell to the top-seeded South Carolina Gamecocks in the semifinals, losing 4-1. In the third-place match against Florida State, Virginia lost 3-2, ultimately finishing in fourth place.

Sophomore Jaclyn LaHa was a standout performer for Virginia, finishing the tournament undefeated with three wins. Senior Amanda Sambach also put in a solid performance, winning two out of three matches. LaHa excelled on par threes and par fives, while Sambach dominated the par fives.

The Cavaliers will look to improve their performance as they prepare for the upcoming Chattanooga Classic on March 28. Overall, while the team finished in a respectable fourth place, they will be striving for better results in future tournaments.
