South Carolina under Red Flag Fire Alert

South Carolina is currently under a Red Flag Fire Alert issued by the South Carolina Forestry Commission. This alert means that outdoor burning is strongly discouraged due to ideal wildfire weather conditions caused by a cold front moving through the state, including wind, low humidity, and dry fuels. The SCFC Fire Chief, Darryl Jones, emphasized the importance of holding off on burning to prevent potential wildfires and reduce strain on fire departments and first responders. With a significant uptick in wildfires in February and March, the alert aims to prevent further incidents. While the alert does not automatically trigger county or local ordinances, some areas like Darlington County have issued burn bans in response to the alert. The SCFC will reevaluate the situation on Sunday. Stay updated with WMBF News for the latest developments.
