Tracking Transfers in South Carolina Basketball Portal

South Carolina basketball guard Austin Herro has announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal, according to On3’s Joe Tipton. Herro, the younger brother of NBA star Tyler Herro, was put on scholarship for the Gamecocks ahead of the 2024-2025 season but saw limited playing time. With three years of eligibility remaining, Herro will now explore other opportunities.

The NCAA Transfer Portal, which covers all NCAA sports, is a private database where student-athletes can indicate their desire to transfer. Once a player’s name is in the portal, other schools can reach out, and the current school is no longer obligated to provide a scholarship. The process must be done through the school’s compliance office, but players can withdraw at any time.

GamecockCentral’s transfer portal tracker will monitor all South Carolina players entering the portal, as well as track incoming transfers. While the portal officially opens for underclassmen on March 24th, transfer news has already started circulating. The tracker will be updated throughout the spring to provide the latest information on player movements.

As transfer season kicks off, South Carolina fans can stay informed about roster changes and new additions through the portal tracker. With the opportunity for players to explore new opportunities and find the best fit for their collegiate careers, the transfer portal continues to play a significant role in shaping college athletics.
