Breaking News: New Poll Reveals Results of 2026 South Carolina Governor’s Race

In the early stages of the battle for the GOP gubernatorial nomination in South Carolina, Alan Wilson and Nancy Mace are emerging as the clear frontrunners. According to a recent survey by First Tuesday Strategies, Wilson narrowly leads Mace with 20.8% of respondents backing him compared to Mace’s 16.3%. Lieutenant governor Pamela Evette, who was previously seen as a frontrunner, trailed far behind with only 6.9% support. Undecided voters make up a significant portion of the electorate at 46.6%.

Mace criticized the results, suggesting that Wilson’s camp may have been involved in influencing the outcome of the survey. Despite having high name recognition, Evette has consistently polled lower than expected in recent surveys. First Tuesday Strategies, an independent polling firm, conducted the survey among 500 likely primary voters in March 2025. The margin of error is plus or minus 4.4%.

In a state where Democrats have struggled to win top-of-the-ticket races, the GOP primary in South Carolina is crucial. The last Democrat to win such a race was Fritz Hollings in 1998. Wilson and Mace are leading the pack in the GOP gubernatorial nomination race, with Evette falling behind in support. Stay tuned for further updates on the competitive race as polling data continues to be released.
