In the past five years, South Carolina has seen a significant influx of new residents from other states, with 161,385 people making the move from 2019 to 2023, according to updated census numbers. The Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation highlighted that certain counties, particularly in urban areas and along the coast, experienced a rapid growth in population.
Of the new arrivals, 91,298 individuals have chosen to settle in six specific counties, with Greenville, Horry, Charleston, Richland, York, and Beaufort being the most popular destinations. Reasons cited for the migration include the appealing weather, lifestyle, employment opportunities, and business prospects that South Carolina has to offer.
The Census Bureau’s data from 2022 also revealed that approximately 121,000 residents relocated to the state from other parts of the country. This trend indicates a positive outlook for South Carolina’s population growth and economic development in the coming years.
