Sarah Rumely Noble has been appointed as the new head coach of the South Carolina Gamecock volleyball team, with the approval of the USC Board of Trustees. She takes over from Tom Mendoza, who recently moved to Marquette. Rumely Noble brings with her a wealth of coaching experience, having previously led the Appalachian State team to success in the Sun Belt East Division championship and the NIVC Tournament.
Her contract with South Carolina includes a base salary that increases over five years, reflecting the school’s commitment to her leadership. Athletics Director Jeremiah Donati praised Rumely Noble’s coaching record and SEC experience, highlighting the thorough nationwide search that led to her appointment. This marks Donati’s first coaching hire since joining the Gamecocks.
Rumely Noble’s coaching career includes stints at LSU, Arkansas, Wake Forest, and North Texas before her successful tenure at Appalachian State. As a player, she excelled at Kentucky, earning multiple accolades including All-SEC team selection, Freshman of the Year, Player of the Year, and All-American honors. She is also a member of the Kentucky Athletics Hall of Fame and an SEC Women’s Legend.
With her experience coaching setters, leading offenses, and developing players, Rumely Noble is poised to make a significant impact on the South Carolina volleyball program. Her background in both playing and coaching at a high level, as well as her success at Appalachian State, bode well for the future of the Gamecocks under her leadership.
