Three Westminster College students recently attended the Sport Entertainment and Venues Tomorrow (SEVT) conference at the University of South Carolina, where they had the chance to network, compete, and learn from industry leaders. Senior Gia Francisco, junior Kimberly Cora, and sophomore Kathryn Rose Rankin represented their school at the conference, accompanied by sports management instructor Martha McGrath-Brown. One student, Kathryn Rose Rankin, even secured a professional opportunity with the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour after networking at the event.
The conference also helped shape the academic futures of the students. Gia Francisco now plans to attend the University of South Carolina’s Master of Sports and Entertainment Management program after networking with the program’s head during the conference. Kimberly Cora, a double major in early education and sports management, appreciated the chance to improve her public speaking skills during the event.
The students’ participation in the conference highlights the importance of networking and learning outside of the classroom. Martha McGrath-Brown expressed pride in the students’ representation of the School of Business at the conference and emphasized the role that networking and relationships play in the sports industry.
Overall, the students’ experience at the SEVT conference was transformative and educational, giving them valuable insights into the sports and entertainment industry and paving the way for future opportunities and career growth.
