Israeli forces have completed the encirclement of Gaza’s southern city of Rafah, part of a plan to seize more areas in the enclave. The military has issued evacuation warnings to hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in Rafah since March 18, forcing them into a limited space by the sea. The troops have established the Morag route, separating Rafah and Khan Younis in southern Gaza.
The Israeli offensive in Gaza began after Hamas attacked southern Israel in October 2023, resulting in numerous casualties and hostages taken. Since then, over 50,000 Palestinians have been killed, and much of Gaza is in ruins with most of the population displaced. Israel restarted the offensive in March to free remaining hostages and eradicate Hamas from Gaza.
Hamas, on the other hand, insists on a deal to end the war before releasing hostages and has rejected laying down arms. A Hamas delegation was expected in Cairo to discuss new truce proposals. The conflict continues as Israel vows to continue the campaign until their demands are met, while Hamas remains steadfast in their position. The situation remains tense with ongoing military actions and evacuations, causing further displacement and destruction in Gaza.
