Initial survey indicates South Carolina lieutenant governor in the lead for 2026

In a recent political poll conducted by The Trafalgar Group, South Carolina Lt. Gov. Pamela Evett has emerged as the front-runner among Republican voters for the 2026 gubernatorial race. The poll surveyed 1,127 “likely” Republican voters from March 8-10, with over 31% indicating their support for Evett. U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace followed closely behind with 29.1% of the voter’s support, while South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson came in third with 27.9%. U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman received the least amount of support with 11%.

The poll also revealed that a majority of South Carolina Republicans approve of President Donald Trump’s performance in office. Additionally, it was noted that over half of the participants were over the age of 65, with roughly 90% identifying as white.

The poll coordinators reported a margin of error of 2.9%, indicating that the results should be viewed with some caution. As the gubernatorial race in South Carolina continues to heat up, it is clear that Evett has gained a significant lead among Republican voters. It remains to be seen how the candidates will continue to campaign and engage with voters leading up to the 2026 election.
