Dozens of railroad crossings in NC and SC to close for upcoming track repairs

CSX Transportation and Southern Commercial Development LLC have announced a four-week repair project for railroad tracks in Western North Carolina and the Upstate. The project will begin on April 28 and end on May 23, requiring total closures for dozens of railroad crossings. The repairs will start in McDowell County, North Carolina, and extend to Mitchell County, and potentially Spartanburg County to Rutherford County in South Carolina. The closures will last at least three to five days due to the surfacing team’s ability to cover five to six miles of tracks per day. Signs will be in place to mark detour routes for drivers. However, residents in one-way in/out crossings will have quicker access restored within 12 hours. The project schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions. Drivers should expect extended travel times and delays during this period. More information, including a map of expected closure dates, is available on the Southern Commercial Development website.
