Individual in custody following shooting at Texas high school that left 4 injured

Four students, aged 15 to 18, were injured in a shooting at Wilmer-Hutchins High School in Dallas. Three of the students had gunshot wounds, with injuries ranging from serious to non-life-threatening. The gunman was identified but initially remained at large before being arrested and taken into custody hours later. The incident occurred in the same school where a student was injured in a shooting in a classroom the previous year.

Students were seen evacuating the main school building after the shooting, with one student recalling hearing seven gunshots and seeking shelter with a teacher. Dallas ISD officials expressed their concern over the frequency of such incidents and emphasized the need for preventive measures.

The district confirmed that the gun did not enter the school building during the main intake period when students pass through metal detectors. It was not disclosed how the gun was brought into the building or what led up to the shooting.

Classes at Wilmer-Hutchins High School were canceled for the rest of the week, and counselors were made available to provide support to anyone struggling in the aftermath of the shooting. The investigation remained ongoing, with officials urging anyone with information to come forward.
