University of South Carolina Athletics: Gamecocks Kick Off SEC Championship Against Mississippi State


The No. 23 South Carolina women’s tennis team is gearing up to compete in the 2025 SEC Championship against Mississippi State on April 15. The Gamecocks, seeded ninth, will face off against the 16th seeded Mississippi State team in the first round. The winner will advance to play eighth-seeded Texas on April 16. The tournament is being hosted by Auburn University at the Yarbrough Tennis Center from April 16-20.

On the other hand, Mississippi State, with a 10-15 overall record, has players like Athina Pitta and Gianna Oboniye who are ranked in doubles. Oboniye, with a 9-16 record in singles, will be a key player to watch.

South Carolina leads the all-time series record against Mississippi State with a 35-2 record. The Gamecocks previously defeated the Bulldogs 4-2 earlier in the regular season.
