University of South Carolina Introduces Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Sport Psychology and Counseling Offered by COE

The University of South Carolina’s College of Education is excited to announce the launch of a new bachelor’s degree program in Applied Sport Psychology and Counseling. This innovative program combines principles of psychology with hands-on training in sports settings to prepare students for careers in the rapidly growing field of sport psychology.

The program, which will be housed in the College of Education’s Department of Educational Studies, will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the psychological factors that impact athletic performance. Students will learn how to apply psychological principles to help athletes improve their mental toughness, manage stress, and enhance their overall well-being. The program will also offer training in counseling techniques to help students work with athletes who may be dealing with mental health issues or performance-related challenges.

Dr. Lisa Johnson, a professor in the Department of Educational Studies, expressed her excitement about the new program, stating, “Sport psychology is an emerging field that offers a unique opportunity to combine a passion for sports with a desire to help others achieve their full potential. Our program will provide students with the skills and knowledge they need to make a real difference in the lives of athletes.”

The Applied Sport Psychology and Counseling program is designed for students who have a strong interest in sports and psychology and are looking to pursue a career in the field of sport psychology. Graduates of the program will be prepared to work as consultants, coaches, counselors, or educators in a variety of settings, including sports teams, fitness centers, and clinical settings.

The College of Education is currently accepting applications for the program, which will begin in the fall semester. Prospective students are encouraged to visit the College of Education’s website for more information on the program and application requirements.
