No. 16 Indiana Dominates South Carolina in 87-71 Victory
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 16 Indiana Hoosiers showcased a powerful performance on Saturday, defeating South Carolina 87-71 in a decisive game at home. Myles Rice led the charge with a game-high 23 points, marking an impressive outing for the Hoosiers, who improved their record to 3-0.
Joining Rice in the spotlight, Mackenzie Mgbako contributed 17 points along with seven rebounds, while Malik Reneau added 13 points. Kaanan Carlyle also shined with 12 points, and Trey Galloway chipped in 11 points. On defense, Oumar Ballo made his mark with 13 rebounds and six blocked shots, adding to Indiana’s dominance in the paint.
South Carolina (2-2) was led by Morris Ugusuk, who scored 18 points and displayed accuracy from beyond the arc with 4 of 6 shooting from three-point range. Nick Pringle also shone with a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, while Jamarii Thomas and Myles Stute each added 13 and 11 points, respectively.
The game saw a series of runs, beginning with South Carolina’s early 4-0 lead before Indiana responded with a swift 14-0 run, propelled by Rice’s jumper at the 14:34 mark of the first half. Despite a late push from the Gamecocks, which saw Pringle’s slam pull them within 11 points, Indiana maintained control throughout the second half. A remarkable half-court bank shot from Carlyle extended the lead to 49-35 early in the second period, exemplifying Indiana’s confident play.
The Hoosiers kept the pressure on, eventually solidifying their victory over South Carolina as they aim to continue their winning streak in the upcoming games.
