Two South Carolina Gamecocks Receive All-American Honors for the First Time in over Three Decades


South Carolina Gamecocks’ Edge Kyle Kennard and running back Raheim “Rocket” Sanders have been honored as First Team Academic All-Americans for 2024 by the College Sports Communicators, marking the first time since 1991 that Gamecocks have received first team honors. Both players excelled on the field and in the classroom, representing the true meaning of student-athletes.

Sanders, who earned his degree in recreation and sport management from the University of Arkansas before transferring to South Carolina, maintained an impressive 3.88 GPA. The 6-foot, 230-pound running back was a key player for the Gamecocks, posting impressive stats both on the ground and through the air.

Kennard, who earned his degree in Services Management from South Carolina, transferred from Georgia Tech and made a significant impact on the Gamecocks’ defense. He was recognized with the Nagurski Award for his outstanding performance as the nation’s best defender in 2024.

Both Sanders and Kennard played pivotal roles in helping the Gamecocks achieve their best season since the Spurrier era, securing nine wins in 2024. Their dedication to excellence on and off the field has left a lasting legacy in Columbia.

The Gamecocks have a history of producing Academic All-Americans, with Sanders and Kennard joining a prestigious list of past honorees. Their achievements showcase the program’s commitment to success both academically and athletically.
